• Mental Health Affects Those Who Provide Too.

Hey ya’ll, I am the daughter of a local cowboy that found a true passion in the difficulties of being a production agriculturalist. Throughout my years in high school, I conducted two research projects over the topic and discovered the flaws we have created due to stigma. My biggest goal is to bring this world wide issue to a better known reality.

There are a handful of resources available to those struggling, but not many are aware of them or comfortable enough to reach out. Many farmers and ranchers have this idea to “rub dirt” on sticky situations, as if the problem will fade away, this could not be further from the truth! In order to keep the stress from building you have to let it out, and become self aware of your challenges.

Within my 4 years of research and dedication to this topic, I have found the biggest cause to stress and anxiety is the things we cannot control. A person cannot force the weather, crops, diseases, and government regulations to layout exactly how they need them to. This leads to damaging the production services of which are used to keep families alive!

With a better understanding of the illness itself, and hearing from other producers who have also struggled in silence I hope to improve rural communities on a large scale.
